Kentucky Sports Betting Bill Advances to Lower Chamber

Kentuckys sports wagering legislation has cleared its initial review and is now advancing to the lower chamber.

The proposed legislation, known as House Bill 137, would authorize racetracks and Kentuckys horse racing venues to take sports wagers. Sports betting activities would be overseen by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and subject to a 10.25% tax on in-person bets.

Online wagering would also be permitted, but bettors would be required to register in person at a racetrack or racecourse. Online betting revenue would be taxed at a rate of 14.25%.

The initial licensing fee for sports betting would be set at $500,000, with an additional $50,000 renewal fee.
