The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has joined forces with the charitable organization Racing to School to develop a new educational tool designed to encourage safe and accountable wagering.
Racing2Learn will be presented as a complimentary online course, offering participants an in-depth exploration of the BHA’s rules pertaining to licensed individual gambling, and a thorough examination of problematic gambling and its potential negative consequences.
The module also delves into the connection between young individuals and gambling and their link to gaming, and provides a comprehensive list of resources for those grappling with problematic gambling and the organizations that offer assistance.
“Responsible gambling is essential to our sport and industry, and education is a potent instrument to ensure everyone engaged in British horseracing betting can wager safely,” stated Will Lambe, Executive Director of the BHA.
“We are proud to have Racing2Learn as a resource, providing extensive remote learning opportunities across a wide array of subjects, and I urge everyone interested to investigate it.”
During the year 2020, Racing to School teamed up with the Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) to conduct two preliminary workshops. The objective was to instruct young individuals about the connection between gaming and wagering, and to increase awareness of the hazards and assistance accessible.
John Black, the chief executive officer of Racing to School, stated that the new online module will expand upon this, aiming to reach a larger group of individuals within the racing sector.
“Why can’t racing be a leader in responsible gambling, teaching young people to make wise gambling decisions? This aligns with motorsport’s ongoing dedication to responsible gambling and welcoming the next generation of racing fans,” Black remarked.
“We will never avoid the potential risks, while also emphasizing the robust support and guidance networks that are readily available.
“This module is a crucial initial step in our efforts in this area, and we intend to broaden our educational programs to highlight the positive relationship that exists between gambling and racing.”
The introduction coincides with Safer Gambling Week 2020, which takes place from November 19-25 in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
