The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) chief executive, Michael Dugher, has appealed to the British government for financial support for casinos, which are being affected by COVID-19 restrictions.
Casinos are a crucial component of the UK economy and a key part of the hospitality sector. Dugher highlighted that any limitations would have a “substantial effect” on casinos.
A BGC report reveals that there are currently 120 casinos in the UK, employing approximately 11,600 individuals, generating £600 million in taxes and contributing £1.2 billion to the economy.
Dugher asserted that gambling establishments merely seek “confirmation” if further limitations are imposed.
“Casinos, akin to numerous other enterprises within the hospitality sector, are simply seeking assurances that they will receive comprehensive governmental backing should the pandemic necessitate more stringent constraints.”
Earlier in the day, BGC associates detailed their corporate social responsibility objectives in their 2021 CSR report, encompassing collaboration with local communities and endeavors to mitigate their environmental footprint.
