The United Kingdom’s Gambling Commission (UKGC) issued a £100,000 penalty to Broadway Gaming Ltd., a Malta-licensed online gaming firm, for neglecting to incorporate essential terms and conditions in promotional materials across its five gambling platforms. While authorized to provide remote gaming services within the UK, the company had previously been reprimanded in June 2016 by the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) regarding a deceptive advertisement on its Butlers Bingo website. This promotion, which enticed players with a “deposit £10, receive £35” offer, was deemed to breach the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) code by not being transparent about the significant stipulations associated with the deal. In essence, it employed a typical bait-and-switch strategy. The ASA prohibited the advertisement in its existing format and instructed Broadway Gaming to remove it. Nevertheless, the UKGC inquiry disclosed that comparable infractions were occurring on Broadway Gaming’s other sites, including Bingo Diamond, Casino of Dreams, Dotty Bingo, and Rehab Bingo.
A theatrical wagering firm has found itself in trouble with the UK Gambling Commission for not following advertising regulations. Apparently, their promotional materials lacked transparency regarding terms and conditions, a significant violation according to regulatory authorities.
As restitution, the company will pay a £100,000 fine, which includes covering the Gambling Commission’s investigative expenses. Furthermore, to ensure industry-wide learning, they will disclose a comprehensive account of the situation on their website. Let this serve as a warning to other internet-based gaming providers!
