The Western Australian government has granted Crown Resorts an extension for the Perth Casino Royal Commission’s final report, moving the due date to March 4, 2022. This follows an original deadline of November 2021. The postponement is partially attributed to the prolonged schedule of the Victorian Royal Commission, which is also examining Crown.
Premier Mark McGowan indicated that this will provide the Perth Commission sufficient opportunity to analyze the results of the Victorian investigation. He stressed that the government feels this extension is in the public’s best interest.
Crown Resorts is presently under significant examination and numerous inquiries regarding its management of anti-money laundering procedures and claims of internal operational problems. There are even deliberations about rescinding their Victorian casino permit, although some specialists deem this improbable.
Professionals suggest that rather than instantly imposing severe penalties, the Royal Inquiry is adopting a more comprehensive strategy. Their emphasis lies in strengthening regulations and supervision.
However, Crown Resorts is not in the clear just yet. Should the Inquiry uncover sufficient evidence of wrongdoing, they retain the authority to revoke their operating permit.
