ACMA Cracks Down on Illegal Offshore Gambling Websites in Australia

The Australian Media and Communications Authority (ACMA) has initiated steps to restrict several unlawful overseas wagering platforms, formally requesting that internet providers limit connectivity to them.

This action follows an ACMA inquiry that discovered nine web providers were in breach of the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act. Restricting these sites is one of numerous strategies Australian regulators are employing to safeguard citizens from the risks of illicit internet betting.

Included in the recently restricted sites are Winning Days, 21Bit Casino, Oshi Casino, Lucky elf Casino, NeoSpin, Lets Lucky, Boho Casino, Ripper Casino and BC.Game.

A cumulative 642 unauthorized gambling and partner websites have been blocked since November 2019, when the ACMA commenced issuing these restriction directives. Furthermore, over 180 illegal operations have withdrawn from the Australian market since the ACMA began implementing more stringent regulations against unlawful offshore gambling in 2017.

The ACMA aims to advise users that even if a wagering platform appears legitimate, it might lack the necessary safeguards for consumers. Consequently, Australians who utilize these illicit services risk financial losses.

Australians can consult the registry on the ACMA website to verify if a gambling platform is legal and authorized to operate within the country.

Online gaming enthusiasts in Australia seeking information on safety measures can visit the website of the Australian Communications and Media Authority, often referred to as ACMA. This resource provides guidance on identifying questionable operators, safeguarding oneself, and reporting illicit gambling platforms.

Operating as a division of the Australian government, the ACMA oversees broadcasting, internet activities, and telecommunications.
